Concrete pool painting in Melbourne

We prepare and recoat concrete pools where the shell is sound. Contact us early to discuss the work and allow time for drying and curing before you want to use the pool.

A recent job

From bare concrete to swimming-ready

This pool had worn back to bare, stained concrete with the old coating gone in patches. Prepped, primed and recoated, it was back in use the same season, at a fraction of what resurfacing would have cost.

  • The empty shell is washed, ground back where coatings have failed, and repaired
  • Coating matched to what the pool had before. The two don't mix
  • Drying and curing time allowed before refilling

When painting is the right call

A concrete pool is a candidate for recoating when the shell is sound and the problem is the surface: chalking colour, stains that no longer scrub out, flaking patches, or bare concrete showing through. If the shell is cracked or moving, painting won't fix it, and we'll say so at the quote rather than take the job.

Allowing time for drying and curing

The pool has to be empty, the concrete has to be dry, and the coating has to cure before refilling, all of it weather-dependent. Everyone rings in November wanting to swim by Christmas, and by then the run of dry days you need is booked out. The pools that are ready for summer are the ones booked in spring.

What it involves

Drain and wash, grind or strip failing areas, patch the repairs and sand them flush, prime, then coat in the product that matches the pool's history. You get a written schedule up front, including how long before the water goes back in, so you know when it can be refilled.

What affects the price

Pool size and surface condition affect the price. A shell whose coating is still sound needs a wash, an etch and a recoat. One that's flaking needs grinding back first. One worn through to bare, stained concrete needs repair before any coating goes near it. What's already on there matters just as much: chlorinated rubber, epoxy and acrylic don't mix, so if the existing system can't be identified or can't be over-coated, it all has to come off. That is the single biggest swing in a pool quote. Then it's the number of coats, whether a truck and gear can get to the pool, and the weather. The cure has to finish before the pool refills, before the pool can be used.
