Interior painting costs in Melbourne
The useful starting point is what each room includes. Walls only, walls and ceilings, and a complete room are different scopes, even when the floor area is identical.
Three interior scopes to compare
- Walls only. Name the rooms and wall repairs. Confirm whether ceilings, cornices, skirting, doors and window frames are excluded.
- Walls and ceilings. Add ceiling condition, height, cornices and any stains that need assessment. Do not assume doors or trim are included.
- A complete room. Specify each painted surface, including the number and sides of doors, frames and built-in features. Cabinet interiors and wardrobes need their own scope decision.
For a whole-house quote, repeat that list room by room and include halls, stairs and landings. A three-bedroom home can have a very different painted area from another three-bedroom home.

What changes an interior quote
Condition. Cracks, damaged plaster, failing paint and recurring stains need assessment. Painting over an unresolved leak or other underlying issue is not a repair to that issue.
Detail and colour. Doors, windows, cornices and panelling add work beyond flat walls. Confirm the product and coating system for the existing surface and chosen colour.
Access and occupancy. Tell us which rooms are occupied, what furniture needs moving and whether stairs or high ceilings complicate access. Agree room order and access before work begins.
Protection and handover. Confirm protection, cleanup and when each room can be used. Drying and cure guidance depends on the product and conditions; we will explain when each room can be used.
What to send with your enquiry
Send the suburb, rooms, approximate dimensions, ceiling heights, surfaces to include and a description of any damage. Photos help explain the scope; an inspection can resolve what they do not show. Mention your preferred timing and whether the property will be occupied.
