Painting Brunswick's housing stock
Brunswick has Victorian terraces, Edwardian weatherboards and warehouse conversions, each with different preparation needs. The Victorian terraces need care around render, lime-based surfaces and iron lacework. The Edwardian and interwar weatherboards live or die by exterior prep: sanding back to sound timber, not painting over flake. And the warehouse conversions off Sydney Road and Lygon Street are big open volumes with high ceilings, exposed brick and steel. That's closer to a commercial job than a house, and we do both.
The other thing about a suburb this old: most of Brunswick went up before 1971, so there's a good chance of lead paint down in the layers on the weatherboards, window frames and eaves. It's invisible under later coats and it changes how the outside gets prepped, because dry sanding or burning it off spreads lead dust through the yard. Worth raising at the quote. There's more on the exterior painting page.
We also paint the suburb's shopfronts and commercial spaces. If you've walked Sydney Road, you've seen the deep greens those frontages traditionally wear. We liked the colour so much it became our own.
